The Issue

In the Salt Lake Avenues, we hear the constant drone of leaf blowers from groundwork at our local Cathedral of the Madeleine. Multiple blowers are used simultaneously, often several times a week, year-round. This isn't just occasional; it's constant noise pollution that affects the entire neighborhood. It disrupts people who work from home, people enjoying a day off, people who are trying to sleep for night shifts- all just to blow dirt back and forth.

Leaf blowers have their use. That use would be during fall when leaves are all over; they can be useful to gather the leaves more closely to put in a bag and dispose of them. However, using them year round to blow dirt and debris and never gathering anything up is irresponsible and a waste.

Limiting the use of leaf blowers to once a month, and also during the fall season should be sufficient enough to maintain groundwork. And hey here's a thought, use a rake if there's something to gather up. And actually gather it up instead of blowing dust on our cars.

By making our neighborhood more quiet and adding less fumes, we can make an enormous difference to the quality of life. We urge the management of the cathedral, and the city, to recognize their impact on our shared environment and adopt better practices and legislation.

Join us in advocating for a restriction on the use of leaf blowers, protecting our homes, our health, and our environment. Sign this petition and help us bring back sanity.
