Έκκληση προς την Κυπριακή Πολιτεία: Προστατέψτε τα Παιδιά μας από τα Ηλεκτρονικά Τσιγάρα
Ως ευαισθητοποιημένοι πολίτες και γονείς, εκφράζουμε την έντονη ανησυχία μας για τη ραγδαία εξάπλωση των ηλεκτρονικών τσιγάρων μιας χρήσης στην κυπριακή αγορά. Πρόκειται για προϊόντα με ελκυστική εμφάνιση και γεύσεις όπως καραμέλα και φρούτα, προφανώς σχεδιασμένα για να προσελκύουν παιδιά και εφήβους, με σοβαρούς κινδύνους για την υγεία και την ψυχοκοινωνική τους ανάπτυξη.

Τα ηλεκτρονικά τσιγάρα περιέχουν νικοτίνη, μια ουσία που είναι γνωστό ότι προκαλεί εθισμό, σύμφωνα με πολλές μελέτες. Στην Κύπρο, η πώληση ηλεκτρονικών τσιγάρων απαγορεύεται σε άτομα κάτω των 18 ετών. Παρ’ όλα αυτά, παρά τη σχετική νομοθεσία, η πρόσβαση των νέων σε αυτά τα επιβλαβή προϊόντα συνεχίζει να αυξάνεται.

Σύμφωνα με τον Παγκόσμιο Οργανισμό Υγείας, η χρήση καπνικών προϊόντων ευθύνεται για πάνω από 8 εκατομμύρια θανάτους ετησίως. Παράλληλα, η Εθνική Έρευνα για τον Καπνό στους Νέους 2024 καταγράφει ανησυχητική αύξηση στη χρήση ατμιστικών προϊόντων από ανήλικους στην Κύπρο. Αυτή η επικίνδυνη τάση δεν μπορεί να αγνοηθεί.

Ζητούμε από την κυβέρνηση να προχωρήσει άμεσα στα εξής:

✅ Απαγόρευση εισαγωγής και πώλησης ηλεκτρονικών τσιγάρων μιας χρήσης με γεύσεις που στοχεύουν τους νέους

✅ Αυστηρή επιτήρηση της αγοράς και επιβολή αυστηρών προστίμων για πώληση σε ανηλίκους

Επιπλέον, τα προϊόντα αυτά αποτελούν και σοβαρή περιβαλλοντική απειλή, καθώς περιέχουν τοξικά απόβλητα και μη ανακυκλώσιμα υλικά, επιβαρύνοντας ακόμη περισσότερο το φυσικό μας περιβάλλον.

As concerned citizens and parents, we are deeply alarmed by the growing presence of brightly packaged, candy-flavored disposable vapes in the Cypriot market. These products are clearly designed to attract teens, putting their health and development at serious risk. 

E-cigarettes contain nicotine, a substance known to be addictive according to several studies. In Cyprus, the sale of electronic cigarettes is prohibited to individuals under the age of 18. Yet despite this legislation, underaged youth access to these harmful products continues to rise.

According to the World Health Organization, tobacco use is responsible for more than 8 million deaths each year. Alarming data from the 2024 National Youth Tobacco Survey also shows a continued rise in youth vaping. This dangerous trend cannot be ignored.

We urge the government to take immediate action by:

✅ Banning the import of fruity disposable vapes
✅ Enforcing strict controls and penalties on sales to minors

Beyond the health risks, these single-use vapes pose a significant environmental hazard due to their toxic waste and non-recyclable materials.
