Restrict Drug Rehab Shelters and Multiple Occupancies in South Claremont LGBTQ+ Zone
The Issue
We believe in the unique and essential character of the designated LGBTQ+ zone in South Claremont, Blackpool. These spaces are pillars of support, safety, and community for the LGBTQ+ residents and visitors to our town. However, an influx of drug rehabilitation shelters and houses of multiple occupancy threatens to alter the atmosphere of acceptance and security that the LGBTQ+ community here that we working hard to establish. While it is essential to provide spaces for drug rehabilitation and for those without homes, it is equally crucial to protect the LGBTQ+ holiday/tourist zone. The overlap of these communities stresses the need for planning which is sensitive to and protective of all involved. We are asking Blackpool Council to restrict the opening of drug rehabilitation shelters and houses of multiple occupancy in the designated LGBTQ+ zone in South Claremont and to cease the operation of those that are currently open. This petition calls for strategic planning that ensures both the establishment of safe accommodation for drug rehabilitation and homeless communities, in more suitable areas and outside the protected tourist LGBTQ+ zones. It is time for our council to act - and for you to support our businesses that are being adversly affected. Please sign this petition in order to protect the inclusivity, diversity, and peace of the South Claremont LGBTQ+ Zone.
