The Issue

Our neighborhood pocket park, Vermont Miracle Park, has long been a cherished sanctuary—a vital space for children to play, seniors to rest, and neighbors to connect. However, this essential public asset is currently being compromised. A vendor has established a persistent presence directly in front of the park, effectively creating a physical and visual blockade that prevents the community from using the space as intended.
The obstruction goes beyond mere presence; the sidewalk and park entrance are frequently cluttered with large-scale used items, including furniture and appliances, which create significant accessibility barriers. This "clutter" is more than an inconvenience—it is a safety hazard for families with strollers and neighbors with mobility aids, and it transforms a tranquil urban oasis into a congested loading zone.

While we support the vibrancy of local commerce, the current location of this operation is fundamentally unsuitable for a community asset. The encroachment of used goods and large-scale inventory into the public right-of-way directly contradicts urban design principles that prioritize open access and public health. According to the American Planning Association, accessible green spaces are critical lifelines for mental and social well-being in dense urban environments; currently, our lifeline is being severed.

Our Goal:

We are calling upon the Local City Council and City Planning authorities to intervene and facilitate the relocation of this vendor to a more appropriate commercial site nearby.

  • Relocating the vendor will:
*Restore Safe Access: Clear the entryway of large-scale obstructions for all residents.
*Reclaim Public Space: Return the park to its rightful purpose as a place for recreation and rest.
*Uphold Community Standards: Ensure that public parks remain open, environment-friendly, and accessible to the neighbors, children, and elderly who rely on them.
  • Take Action - We urge our local authorities to take swift, decisive action to resolve this conflict of use. Please help us reclaim Vermont Miracle Park by signing this petition and demanding that our public spaces remain open and unobstructed for the entire community. Thank YOU!!
