Re: Mornington Peninsula Shire Council proposal made on 6/5/25 to discontinue Willum Warrain Subsidy ($103,500)

We are deeply concerned about the proposed cuts to the funding of Willum Warrain Aboriginal Association and Gathering Place.  The proposal to withdraw funding demonstrates a disregard for Willum Warrain’s critical community wellbeing and cultural preservation work and highly regarded cultural awareness education role.

Willum Warrain is the only Aboriginal Gathering Place in this municipality. Any threat to the organisation’s sustainability is also an existential threat to Mornington Peninsula Shire’s capacity to implement their Reconciliation Action Plan.

To the Mornington Peninsula Shire Council

We, the undersigned, strongly oppose the decision to cut funding to Willum Warrain, the Shire's only Aboriginal Gathering Place by $103,500. Please restore this funding as a matter of urgency.
