Restore Veterans Park

Restore Veterans Park
The Issue
Veterans Park, located at Ridge Route and Rockfield has a fixed memorial to all of our Armed Forces. This park when, in its complete operable state is enjoyable for all.
Many walk around the 1 acre lake with its fountain geysers at each end enjoying the peaceful atmosphere.
Park benches, magnolia trees, luscious grass and a butterfly garden all create a calm beautiful space to enjoy your lunch, walk your dog, and or let the kids find pond turtles and ducks. This park is meant to be enjoyed by all.
However, one fountain has been inoperable for over 5 months. Green algae has taken over the perimeter of the pond, and many lovely magnolia trees are suffering black rot. Weeds have taken over the planted areas and the flowing water system stops consistently.
What is a memorial to our Military is now becoming disrespectful with its neglect. The inoperable water flow system leaves stagnant water. The overgrowth of algae consumes oxygen and blocks sunlight from underwater plants. When the algae eventually dies, the oxygen in the water is consumed. The lack of oxygen makes it impossible for aquatic life to survive. Tree disease spreads and tree loss is inevitable.
Many complaints have been made by text and email to the park personnel to no avail. There has been many conflicting statements as to why the park is not fully operational.
Some os the reasons told homeowners are,
It's too expensive to get a diver to look at the fountain and people complain it is very expensive.
We do not have the few memorial plaques that used to be under trees because people complained it looked like a cemetery.
Please help, stand up for our park and let's get this park restored to its intended state. We all deserve and have the right to enjoy a beautifully maintained park in our city of Lake Forest.
