Petition Update

Thank you to everyone who has supported this petition so far — we have now reached 243 signatures. Your support matters and shows that many people care deeply about integrity and accountability in leadership.

Recent reporting from Te Ao Māori News highlights a significant development. The High Court has ruled that Te Tai Tokerau MP Mariameno Kapa-Kingi was unlawfully expelled from Te Pāti Māori, after the party failed to follow its own constitutional processes.

The Court determined the expulsion was invalid, meaning Kapa-Kingi remains a member of the party. It also found no evidence supporting allegations that she misused party funds, and confirmed John Tamihere’s presidency as valid.

This ruling strengthens the concerns many of us have raised about failures in leadership processes, transparency, and proper governance within the party structure.

With elections approaching, it is vital that our communities are represented by leadership that demonstrates fairness, accountability, and respect for due process. Our MPs carry the voices of our people, but the leadership structures behind them must also reflect those same standards.

This petition is not about division — it is about ensuring strong, ethical leadership and protecting the integrity of our political representation.

If you have not yet signed or shared the petition, please consider doing so. Every signature helps bring attention to the need for better leadership, transparency, and accountability.

Thank you again to everyone who continues to support this kaupapa.
