PETITION FOR LEADERSHIP RESET AT TE PATI MAORI

Real leadership knows when it is time to step aside so the kaupapa can stand strong.

I want to share an important update following the attached Court discussion (facebook post only) which is public knowledge.

We know Court has recognised that there are serious questions about the way Ms Kapa-Kingi was expelled, and that her position is one that must be preserved while those issues are properly examined. At the same time, the respondents themselves acknowledge that the current situation is causing significant tension within the leadership and risks real damage to the party as we move toward the 2026 election.

This brings us to the deeper issue many of us have been raising.

Leadership must always serve the people and protect the integrity of the movement. When power becomes concentrated within a small group — where key leadership, management, and administration roles are closely connected through family or organisational ties — it creates an unhealthy power block. That kind of structure does not feel safe for MPs to speak freely, and it places the reputation of our party at risk in the public eye.
We stand in full support of our MPs, who are the elected representatives chosen by the public to serve our communities and uphold the kaupapa. Their voices must be protected, not constrained.
Now is not the time to lose faith or hope. This is the time to stand together, support our elected MPs, and place clear, respectful pressure on a leadership reset grounded in transparency, accountability, and proper process.

There is also a serious concern around legitimacy. The call for leadership to step down is not personal; it is about ensuring leadership has been properly elected and is accountable to the people. Transparent governance is fundamental to trust, and without it, confidence in leadership cannot be sustained.

This moment is not about division. It is about restoring integrity, fairness, and collective strength so our movement can move forward united and focused on the kaupapa that truly matters for our people.

Thank you John and Kiri for your contributions to date, focus on the good mahi that goes into Waipareira and the challenges with whanau out West; but please ...
Step down.
