Thank you to everyone who has supported and shared this petition. The strong response in 4 days shows that many people care deeply about the integrity, transparency, and future strength of Te Pāti Māori.
This petition is about leadership accountability and good governance — not personal attacks.
Some supporters are concerned that the current President and General Manager both hold significant influence within the Party’s leadership and decision-making structures, while also being closely related. Because these same structures help control how concerns are raised and resolved, this can create a perception of conflict of interest and make members worry that it may be difficult to challenge decisions or speak out safely.
The Party’s constitution does provide a pathway for accountability.
Financial members and electorates can request a Special General Meeting to raise serious concerns.
However, when the leaders being questioned are also part of the structures that influence whether those processes move forward, people may feel there are barriers to fair and open accountability.
Raising this issue is not about division.
It is about protecting the mana, credibility, and long-term strength of the movement that belongs to the people.
True kotahitanga is built on transparency, fairness, and the confidence that every voice can be heard without fear.
Ngā mihi nui to everyone engaging respectfully in this important kaupapa. Please continue to share.
