Restore the Somaliland Diaspora Agency's Status

Restore the Somaliland Diaspora Agency's Status
The Issue
Growing up as a part of the Somaliland diaspora, I have always felt a deep connection to my homeland, the Republic of Somaliland. For many of us living abroad, maintaining this bond is crucial not only for our cultural identity but also for actively contributing to the development and prosperity of our homeland. We have a unique capability to invest, share knowledge, and advocate for our country on a global stage.
Back in 2010, a presidential decree No. JSL/M/DM/249/0133/08210, dated on 26th August, had established the Somaliland Diaspora Agency. This agency, under the provision of the national constitutional article 90, was designed to coordinate and cooperate with Somaliland diaspora communities worldwide. Unfortunately, the current situation sees the agency reduced to a department within the Somaliland Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.
This change diminishes its ability to execute programs like the Returnee Program effectively, and it hinders the diaspora's capability to contribute to their homeland's development. Restoring its status as an autonomous agency will empower it to better serve its mission.
The Republic of Somaliland stands to gain immensely from a well-resourced and independent Diaspora Agency. The diaspora is a vital asset capable of bringing substantial investments, advocating for international recognition, and fostering cultural and knowledge exchanges. A dedicated agency, as originally intended, is best positioned to harness these resources.
We urge the Republic of Somaliland Government to recognize the value of this agency and restore its independent status. Let us build a bridge together between Somaliland and its global citizens for a prosperous and united future.
Please sign this petition and support the movement to revive the Somaliland Diaspora Agency for our collective benefit.
