Restore the Outdoor Hot Spring Pools (Qwólts) at Harrison Hot Springs

The Issue

As an ardent advocate for the preservation of natural spaces in British Columbia, the destruction of the natural springs at Harrison Hot Springs, also known as Hobo Springs, deeply affects me. These springs aren't just a favourite spot of many locals and tourists; they hold immense cultural and spiritual significance for the local Sts'ailes First Nation. The Sts'ailes refer to the Natural Hot Springs by the name "Qwólts". Qwólts is a reminder of the stunning beauty that nature offers. Why are we allowing private resorts to alter our pristine, natural landscapes with impunity?? This needs to end and there needs to be accountability for highly disruptive acts of this nature.

In a destructive act, Harrison Hot Springs Resort filled the natural springs in with rocks, altering the environment and burying the hot springs. Not only was this act environmentally detrimental, but it was a big shock to the village of Harrison Hot Springs, as this is a beloved nature gem. This destruction goes against the principle of preservation that we as a community stand for.

The natural pools housed small fish, including pumpkinseed fish, that had lived there prior to the habitat destruction.

British Columbia is rich with approximately 40 natural hot springs, each contributing to the unique ecological composition of this region (Source: Canadian Geographic). The loss of the Hobo Springs (Qwólts) is a direct affront to this natural heritage and diversity. By restoring these springs, we are not just bringing back a hot spring - we are reviving a part of the ecological and cultural fabric of British Columbia.

The Harrison Hot Springs Resort is owned by Aldesta Hotels & Resorts, which in turn is a subsidiary of Saliance Global Holdings Co.

The General manager of the Resort is Tony. His Email is: Tony.medd@harrisonresort.com

Let's unite to remove the 16 boulders placed around these Hot Springs, restore Qwólts, and ensure these natural wonders are preserved for future generations to appreciate. Join me in urging the relevant authorities to act immediately to reverse the damage done. Your signature is a step towards the revival of our natural heritage. Please sign this petition.
