We, the undersigned citizens, call for the immediate recognition and protection of an individual’s fundamental right to travel by private automobile — even after a license suspension — when such travel is essential to life, livelihood, and liberty.

Currently, many people lose their legal ability to drive due to nonviolent, non-felony offenses — such as unpaid fines, administrative errors, or financial hardship. Yet travel by car remains essential to:

Maintain employment
Support children, elderly relatives, or dependents
Fulfill housing and mortgage obligations
Access medical care or court appearances
Exercise full civic responsibility
We propose a grace-based travel permit or statutory exemption for individuals who:

Lost their license due to nonviolent, non-DUI offenses;
Are not a threat to public safety;
Can show ongoing obligations to work, family, or civic life;
Are making reasonable efforts to resolve the cause of suspension.
This policy would not undermine road safety but would protect against legal and economic destruction of people who are otherwise responsible and non-dangerous members of society.

⚖️ Safety is not a constitutional right — liberty is. The denial of physical mobility is a denial of civil participation and survival.

We urge lawmakers and public agencies to restore this basic form of dignity and provide a lawful path to self-sufficiency for those caught in unjust, or unavoidable  cycles of administrative punishment.
