Restore the 3:22 Werribee to Flinders Street service
The issue
By Shafeer and Benny- SCHSREC
Over the past 15 years, students from Suzanne Cory High School have relied on the 3:22 (3:19 from Werribee) Werribee to Flinders Street service to get them home on time. Recently, the Werribee line had a controversial “improvement”, with the latest train available for students being at 3:35. As a long distance commuter myself, I share a lengthy journey with a few schoolmates. The timetable change has displaced our arrival times back home by nearly 30 additional minutes.
as an example, an anonymous classmate that travels to Wallan from our school has consistently gotten home at 5:30 everyday after the timetable change. Back when the 3:22 service was existent, they used to arrive back home near 4:55.
It's not just students from our school; it’s all the Werribee line commuters that have experienced delayed arrival times due to the timetable change.
We are advocating for change, so students from our school and Werribee line commuters can once again use the 3:22 flinders street service, alongside the 3:35 service. So long distance commuters can arrive home up to 30 minutes earlier. We would like the 3:15 and 3:35 services to remain unchanged, but the 3:22 must be returned to grant students and ordinary commuters an opportunity to use public transport, and still expect to arrive home at a reasonable time, as a high school student should. By signing, you’re not just bringing back a train, you’re gifting a student the privilege of coming home at a reasonable time.
Sincerely,
The Suzanne Cory High School Railway Enthusiast Club
