Restore Service to the Red Line on High St.

The Issue

Restore Bus Service to the Red Line on High St.

I oppose the BNRD plan to eliminate the #94 bus.

Elimination of the #94 will leave High St. residents with only the #95 bus to the Orange Line at Sullivan Square, even though there are three closer subway stations.

The BNRD would:
-eliminate easy access to the Red Line and to the new Green Line Extension at College Ave.

-require those riding the #96 to cross busy streets at the Winthrop rotary, a very dangerous intersection for pedestrians

-require anyone needing to reach the Red Line to walk up to 1⁄2 mile along High St. and navigate a very steep hill

-force many residents to travel much more than 1⁄2 mile to catch a bus to the Red Line since they already walk considerable distances from side-streets to even reach High St.

MBTA staff stated clearly at the BNRD public meetings that eliminating or re-routing an existing bus, then substituting something up to 1⁄2 mile away, was the guideline used when developing the BNRD.

This is not acceptable for the elderly, the disabled, those traveling with children, or for anyone carrying groceries/packages or traveling in bad weather.

I request that the MBTA restore bus service to the Red Line along High St.
