Restore Reliable Weekday & Weekend Train Services for Whiston

Restore Reliable Weekday & Weekend Train Services for Whiston
The Issue
To: Northern Trains, TransPennine Express, Network Rail, and the Department for Transport.
We the undersigned residents of Whiston and surrounding communities call for urgent action to improve weekday weekend train services serving our stations.
For many residents, rail travel is not optional. It is a basic part of daily life. People rely on trains to travel to work, visit family, attend hospital appointments, access leisure opportunities, and support local businesses. At present, weekday & weekend train services through Whiston are unreliable, infrequent, and regularly subject to cancellations or disruption.
This situation places our communities at a clear disadvantage compared with others.
The lack of consistent weekend services creates several serious problems.
• Residents struggle to travel for weekend work shifts in retail, hospitality, healthcare and other essential sectors.
• Families and older residents find it harder to visit relatives or attend social activities.
• Access to hospitals and healthcare appointments becomes more difficult.
• Local businesses lose footfall when people cannot easily travel into Prescot or nearby towns.
• Young people and students face barriers when travelling for education, training or leisure.
Whiston is growing communities with major developments and Whiston Hospital facilities. These investments depend on good public transport connections. A weak weekend rail service undermines that progress.
We believe residents deserve a reliable seven-day railway service that supports modern life.
We therefore call on the relevant authorities to take the following action.
• Restore consistent and reliable Weekday & Weekend train services at Whiston station.
• Increase the frequency of trains on Saturdays and Sundays.
• Improve communication with passengers when services are disrupted.
• Work with local leaders, including Councillor Denise Allen, to ensure our communities receive the rail service they need.
Our communities should not be left behind due to poor rail connectivity. Reliable weekend train services are essential for economic growth, social connection, and equal access to opportunities across the Liverpool City Region.
We ask decision-makers to act urgently to address this issue.
Promoted by Terry Byron on behalf of Denise Allen, both at 41 Willis Lane Whiston, Prescot, Knowsley L25 3RU.
