Restore Public Media Funding in Indiana—Before It’s Too Late

The Issue

Public broadcasting in Indiana is on the verge of collapse.

This year, state lawmakers eliminated more than $3.5 million in annual support for Indiana’s 17 public media stations.

Now, federal cuts have followed—leaving some stations with half their normal budgets and forcing layoffs, programming cuts, and even the shutdown of statewide journalism teams.

This isn’t just about TV or radio. For many Hoosiers—especially in rural communities—public media is the only trusted source for local news, educational content, civic coverage, and emergency information.

Without funding, Indiana Public Broadcasting has announced it will eliminate its statewide reporting team. WNIN in Evansville faces a 37% budget cut. More stations may scale back or shut down altogether.

We’re calling on Governor Eric Holcomb and the Indiana General Assembly to fully restore state funding for public broadcasting.

These stations serve the public—not profit. They keep communities informed, connected, and educated.

Once they disappear, they don’t come back.

Tell Indiana leaders: Don’t let public broadcasting go silent. Restore funding now—before it’s gone for good.
