The issue

We, the undersigned residents and ratepayers of the Livingstone shire formally express that we have lost confidence in the Mayor and Councillors to manage the affairs of this Shire in a transparent, ethical, and accountable manner.

Our concerns include:

  1. Governance concerns — A pattern of decisions that appear inconsistent with transparent and responsible administration.
  2. Ethical concerns — Conduct that has led residents to question whether the Council is acting in the best interests of the community.
  3. Community trust — A significant decline in public confidence in the Council’s ability to provide open communication, responsible stewardship, and fair representation.

In light of these issues, we call upon the Mayor and all Councillors to:

  • Tender their resignations immediately; and
  • Allow for the appointment or election of representatives who can restore public trust and uphold the standards expected of local government.
  • We submit this petition in good faith, seeking a fresh start for the Shire and a return to transparent, ethical, and community focused governance.

Should Mayor and all Councillors not comply we petition the Legislative Assembly of Queensland to call on the Minister for Local Government to investigate the governance of Livingstone Shire Council and, if the statutory grounds are established, exercise the Minister's powers under the Local Government Act 2009 to dismiss the mayor and councillors and appoint an interim administrator until fresh elections can be held.
