Restore Old Traditions at Comerica Park, Home of the Detroit Tigers

The Issue

Every time I step into Comerica Park to watch a Detroit Tigers game, there are distinct features about the ballpark that light up my heart and invoke cherished memories. Something as simple as seeing the fun, flashy "Tigers" sign light up after a win is an undeniably special moment. I am not alone in this sentiment; fellow supporters feel a profound attachment to these symbols too. Regrettably, our beloved "Tigers" sign was replaced by a corporate "Comerica" sign. This switch not only reeked of corporate greed but also stripped away the charm and originality we appreciated.

Another dearly missed feature is the keyhole — the historic dirt path between the pitcher and home plate. The keyhole was a unique feature, intimately tied to tradition and history. Unfortunately, the Detroit Tigers were the last team in the Major League Baseball to have it before it was removed. This change struck a blow to the rich legacy the ballpark held.

The case of Comerica Park is about more than individual design elements. It's about preserving the essence that makes our ballgames an engaging experience. The Detroit Tigers and the Illitch family, who have the power to influence these decisions, need to understand that sometimes, an overhaul isn't the solution. A game in Comerica Park isn't just about the baseball; it's also about the right balance of tradition, history, and uniqueness.

We are appealing to the Detroit Tigers and the Illitch family to bring back the old "Tigers" sign and restore the keyhole. We should not rob future generations of the unique Comerica Park experience that we have been lucky enough to enjoy. Sign this petition to emphasize the importance of tradition and legacy in our beloved ballpark.
