Restore Louisiana’s Coast with Science and Respect for Tradition
The Issue
Louisiana is losing its coast at an alarming rate — and with it, our protection from hurricanes, our fisheries, and a way of life that generations have built.
That’s why it’s devastating that Governor Jeff Landry’s administration just canceled the Mid-Barataria Sediment Diversion — a $3 billion coastal restoration project grounded in decades of scientific research and years of public input. This project wasn’t perfect, but it was a once-in-a-generation chance to rebuild disappearing wetlands, protect coastal communities, and give future generations a fighting chance against climate threats.
Instead of refining the project and ensuring fair support for shrimpers and fishers, the state scrapped it entirely — setting Louisiana back years and putting our coast, culture, and economy at greater risk.
We’re calling on Gov. Landry and the Coastal Protection and Restoration Authority to reverse course, honor the science, and work transparently with local communities to restore this project with stronger protections for fishing families and local jobs.
This is bigger than politics. This is about saving what makes Louisiana home.
