Petition : Restore Konark Sun Temple to Its Glory

In the golden sands of Konark, where the Chandrabhaga once kissed the feet of Surya, stands a wounded giant — the Sun Temple. Once the crown jewel of Odisha’s spiritual and artistic heritage, today it stands incomplete, its sanctum silent, its deity absent, its chariot halted mid-journey.

 

But the soul of Konark still breathes — in every Odia heart, in every chisel mark of our ancestors, in every story whispered by the sea breeze.

 

We, the sons and daughters of Utkala, call upon the Government of Odisha and the Government of India to restore the Konark Sun Temple — not as a museum piece, but as a living temple, a beacon of our identity, and a catalyst for Odisha’s cultural and economic renaissance.

🪓 Visu Maharana and the Ultimate Sacrifice

Every Odia knows the legend — how Visu Maharana, the master sculptor, toiled with thousands to build this celestial chariot. But when the final stone refused to fit, it was his young son, Dharmapada, who arrived in the dead of night. With divine insight and a son’s devotion, he completed the crown stone — saving his father from royal wrath. And then, to protect the guild’s honor, he leapt into the Chandrabhaga, offering his life so that his father’s name might live.

Konark is not just a temple. It is a son’s sacrifice. A father’s pride. A civilization’s soul.

The sanctum once held a floating idol of Surya — suspended mid-air by magnetic marvels. That image, lost to time, must be reborn. We have the knowledge. We have the artisans. We have the will. What we need is the resolve.

📜 We Now Know How to Rebuild

Detailed architectural drawings, models, and records of Konark exist in the British Museum, Indian archives, and private collections in some form or other. The blueprint or large parts of our past is available in parts — waiting to be reassembled with reverence and precision.

 

🛕 If Ram Mandir Can Rise from ruins, So Can Konark

India has shown the world that faith and architecture can walk hand in hand. Odisha and India have the talent as proven in Ram temple Project. The Ram Temple in Ayodhya rose from ruins to radiance. Why should Konark — older, grander, and equally sacred — remain in shadows?

 

🌍 Tourism: A Sleeping Giant

Before tourists’ decline, Konark alone drew over 40% of Odisha’s foreign and domestic tourists. Pilgrims, scholars, artists, and seekers from across the globe came to witness its wonder.

Imagine its rebirth — a fully restored temple, with the Sun God reinstated, drawing millions annually.

• Boost to local artisans and craftsmen

• Revival of heritage villages like Raghurajpur and Pipili

• New hotels, homestays, eco-resorts, and cultural hubs

• Employment for thousands in hospitality, transport, and heritage services

• A spiritual and economic engine for Odisha’s future

We demand:

• A nationally funded, internationally guided restoration mission for Konark

• Reinstatement of the sanctum and the Sun God, using traditional methods and modern engineering

• Involvement of Odia artisans, historians, and spiritual leaders

• Transparent public updates and community participation

Let Konark rise again. Let Dharmapada’s sacrifice not be in vain. Let the chariot of the Sun roll once more across the sands of time.

କୋଣାର୍କ ର ସୁବର୍ଣ୍ଣ ବାଳୁକାରେ, ଯେଉଁଠି ଚନ୍ଦ୍ରଭାଗା ଉପେକ୍ଷିତ କରୁଥିଲେ ସୂର୍ଯ୍ୟଙ୍କ ପାଦପଦ୍ମ , ସେଠାରେ ମିଳେ ଅତୀତ ର ଏକ ଆହତ ପ୍ରମାଣ — ଭଗ୍ନ ସୂର୍ଯ୍ୟ ମନ୍ଦିର। ଯାହା କେବେ ଓଡ଼ିଶାର ଆଧ୍ୟାତ୍ମିକ ଏବଂ କଳା କୌଶଳ ର ମୁକୁଟମଣି ଥିଲା, ସିଏ ଆଜି ଅପୂର୍ଣ୍ଣ; ତାର ଗର୍ଭଗୃହ ନିରବ, ତାର ଦେଉଳ ହୀନ, ତାହାର ରଥ ଅର୍ଦ୍ଧ ମାର୍ଗରେ ବନ୍ଧ ହେଇଯାଇଛି।

କିନ୍ତୁ କୋଣାର୍କର ଆତ୍ମା ର ମୃତ୍ୟୁ ହୋଇନାହିଁ — ବନ୍ଚିଛି ପ୍ରତ୍ୟେକ ଓଡ଼ିଆର ହୃଦୟରେ, ଆମ ପୂର୍ବଜମାନଙ୍କର ପ୍ରମାଣ ଶିଳ୍ପରେ, ସମୁଦ୍ର ର ପବନ ର ଫୁସୁ ଫୁସୁ ଗାଥାରେ।

ଆମେ, ଉତ୍କଳ ସନ୍ତାନ ମାନେ, ଗାୟତ୍ରୀ ମନ୍ତ୍ର ପାଠ କରୁଥିବା ସୂର୍ଯ୍ୟଭକ୍ତ ମାନେ ଓଡ଼ିଶା ସରକାର ଏବଂ ଭାରତ ସରକାର ପାଖରେ ଆହ୍ୱାନ କରୁଛୁ — କୋଣାର୍କ ସୂର୍ଯ୍ୟମନ୍ଦିରକୁ ପୁନଃ ପ୍ରତିଷ୍ଠା କରନ୍ତୁ, ଏକ ମ୍ୟୁଜିୟମ ପ୍ରଦର୍ଶନୀ ଭାବରେ ନୁହେଁ, ବରଂ ଏକ ଜୀବନ୍ତ ମନ୍ଦିର, ଆମ ପରିଚୟର ପ୍ରଦୀପ, ଏବଂ ଓଡ଼ିଶାର ସାଂସ୍କୃତିକ, ଆର୍ଥିକ ଉନ୍ନତିର ପ୍ରେରକ ଭାବେ।

ଏହି ଅନୁରୋଧ କେବଳ ଏକ ଅଭିଯାନ ନୁହେଁ — ଏହା ହେଉଛି ଆମ ଆତ୍ମାର ଆହ୍ୱାନ।

🪓 ବିଶୁ ମହାରଣାଙ୍କର ଚରମ ତ୍ୟାଗ

ପ୍ରତ୍ୟେକ ଓଡ଼ିଆ ଏହି କଥା ଜାଣେ — କିପରି ସେ ମହାନ ଶିଳ୍ପୀ ବିଶ୍ୱୁ ମହାରଣା ହଜାର ଶ୍ରମିକଙ୍କ ସହ ମଗ୍ନଥିଲେ ଏହି ଦିବ୍ୟ ରଥ ତିଆରିରେ। ହେଲେ ଶେଷ ରେ ଚୁମ୍ବକୀୟ ଦଧିନଉତୀ ମାରି ପାରୁନଥିଲେ, ତାଙ୍କ  ଶିଶୁ ପୁତ୍ର ଧର୍ମପଦ ମଧ୍ୟରାତିରେ ଆସି, ଦେବଦୂତ ଭଳି ବୁଦ୍ଧି ଓ ଅପାର ପିତୃଭକ୍ତି ଦ୍ୱାରା ଦଧିନଉତୀ ର ଶିରୋସ୍ଥପନ କଲେ ଓ ତାଙ୍କ ପିତାଙ୍କୁ ରାଜ ଦଣ୍ଡ ମୁକ୍ତ କଲେ। ଏବଂ ଶିଳ୍ପୀ ମଣ୍ଡଳୀର ମର୍ଯ୍ୟାଦା ବଞ୍ଚାଇବାକୁ ଧର୍ମପଦ ଚନ୍ଦ୍ରଭାଗାରେ ପ୍ରାଣ ଦାନ କଲେ, ଯାହାଦ୍ୱାରା ପିତାଙ୍କ ନାମ ଅମର ହେଲା।

କୋଣାର୍କ କେବଳ ମନ୍ଦିର ନୁହେଁ। ଏହା ଗୋଟେ ପୁଅର ତ୍ୟାଗ, ପିତାର ଗର୍ବ, ଯାତୀ ର ଅଭିମାନ ଏବଂ ଏକ ସଭ୍ୟତାର ଆତ୍ମା।

🌞 ଝୁଲନ୍ତ ସୂର୍ଯ୍ୟଦେବ ଙ୍କୁ ପୁନଃ ଉଦୟ କରାଯାଉ

ପୂର୍ବେ ଏଠି ଗର୍ଭଗୃହରେ ଚୁମ୍ବକୀୟ ଚମତ୍କାର ରେ ଝୁଲି ରହିଥିବା ସୂର୍ଯ୍ୟ ମୂର୍ତ୍ତି ଥିଲା। ସେଇ ବିଚିତ୍ର ମହୀମା, ସମୟ କ୍ରମେ ହଜିଗଲା, ହେଲେ ଆଜି ଆମେ ବିଜ୍ଞାନ ମାଧ୍ୟମ ରେ ପୁନଃ ଜୀବନ୍ତ କରିପାରିବା। ଆମପାଖରେ ଜ୍ଞାନ ଅଛି। ଆମପାଖରେ ଶିଳ୍ପୀମାନେ ଅଛନ୍ତି। କେବଳ ଆମର ଇଚ୍ଛାଶକ୍ତି ର ପ୍ରଚୁର ଆବଶ୍ୟକତା ଅଛି ଓ ଦରକାର ହେଉଛି ମାନସିକ ଦୃଢ଼ତା।

 

📜 ଆମେ ପୁନଃ ଏହାକୁ ତିଆରି କରିପାରିବା

ବିଧି କିଛି ଜଣା କିଛି ଅଜଣା 

କୋଣାର୍କର ସବିସ୍ତାର ନକ୍ସା, ମଡେଲ, ଏବଂ ପ୍ରମାଣପତ୍ର ବ୍ରିଟିଶ ମ୍ୟୁଜିୟମ୍, ଭାରତୀୟ ଅଭିଲେଖା ଓ ବ୍ୟକ୍ତିଗତ ସଂଗ୍ରହରେ ରହିଅଛି।  କେବଳ ଶ୍ରଦ୍ଧା ଓ ନିଖୁଣ ଅନୁଶାସନ ସହିତ ପୁନଃ ସଂରଚନା ହେବାକୁ ଅପେକ୍ଷା କରିଅଛି।

 

🛕 ଯଦି ରାମ ମନ୍ଦିର ଉଦୟ ହୋଇପାରେ, କୋଣାର୍କ କାହିଁକି ପଛରେ ରହିବ?

ଭାରତ ସାରା ପୃଥିବୀକୁ ଦେଖାଇଦେଲା — ଆସ୍ଥା ଏବଂ ଶିଳ୍ପକଳା ଏକାଠି ଚାଲିପାରେ। ଅଯୋଧ୍ୟାରେ ବିଲୁପ୍ତ ରାମ ମନ୍ଦିର ର ଉତ୍ଥାନ ହେଲା। ତେବେ କାହିଁକି କୋଣାର୍କ — ଇତିହାସର ବହୁ ପୁରୁଣା, ବ୍ରୁହତ, ପରିକଳ୍ପନା — ଅଂଧାରରେ ପଡି ରହିବ! 

 

🌍 ପର୍ଯ୍ୟଟନ: ଏକ ଶୁପ୍ତ ସଂଭାବନା

 ପୂର୍ବରୁ, କେବଳ କୋଣାର୍କ ହିଁ ଓଡ଼ିଶାରୁ ୪୦% ରୁ ଅଧିକ ବିଦେଶୀ ଓ ଦେଶୀ ପର୍ଯ୍ୟଟକ କୁ ଆକର୍ଷୁଥିଲା। ବିଶ୍ୱର ବିଭିନ୍ନ ସ୍ଥାନରୁ ତୀର୍ଥଯାତ୍ରୀ, ବିଦ୍ୱାନ, ଶିଳ୍ପୀ, ଓ ଅନ୍ୱେଷକ ଏହାର ଅଦ୍ଭୁତତା ଦେଖିବାକୁ ଆସୁଥିଲେ।

କଳ୍ପନା କରନ୍ତୁ — ବିରାଜମାନ ସୂର୍ଯ୍ୟ ଦେବତାଙ୍କ ସହିତ ଏହାର ପୁନଜ୍ଜନ୍ମ ହେଲେ, ସଂପୂର୍ଣ୍ଣ ପୁନଃ ନିର୍ମିତ ମନ୍ଦିର ଆକାର ରେ, ପ୍ରତିବର୍ଷ ଲକ୍ଷାଧିକ ପର୍ଯ୍ୟଟକ କୁ ଆକର୍ଷଣ କରିପାରିବ।

-  ଉପକୃତ ହେବେ ଆଞ୍ଚଳୀକ ଶିଳ୍ପୀ, କାରିଗର, ଜନସଂବଳ

-  ରଘୁରାଜପୁର ଓ ପିପିଲି ପରି ଏତିହାସିକ ଗ୍ରାମ ଓ ସଂସ୍କୃତିର ପୁନଃ ଜୀବନ

-  ନୂତନ ହୋଟେଲ, ହୋମ୍ ‌ସ୍ଟେ, ଇକୋ-ରିଜୋର୍ଟ ଓ ସାଂସ୍କୃତିକ କେନ୍ଦ୍ର ର ଉଦୟ

-  ଆତୀଥ୍ୟ ଶୀଳ୍ପ, ପରିବହନ, ଓ ବୃତ୍ତିଚାଳିତ ଉଦ୍ୟମ ରେ ହଜାର ଲୋକଙ୍କର ଚାକିରି

-  କୋଣାର୍କ ପାଇଁ ଏକ ଜାତୀୟ ଅର୍ଥାୟିତ, ଆନ୍ତର୍ଜାତୀକ ମାର୍ଗଦର୍ଶିତ ପୁନଃନିର୍ମାଣ ମିଶନ

-  ପାରମ୍ପରିକ ବିଧି ଓ ଆଧୁନିକ ବିଜ୍ଞାନ ଦ୍ୱାରା ଗର୍ଭଗୃହ ଓ ସୂର୍ଯ୍ୟ ଦେବତାଙ୍କ ପୁନଃ ସ୍ଥାପନା

କୋଣାର୍କ ପୁନଃ ଉଦୟ କରନ୍ତୁ। ଧର୍ମପଦଙ୍କ ତ୍ୟାଗ ଫଳହୀନ ନହେଉ। ସୂର୍ଯ୍ୟରଥ ପୁଣି ଥରେ କାଳର ବାଳୁକା ଉପରେ ଗଡ଼ୁ

 

ଏହି ଅନୁରୋଧରେ ଆପଣଙ୍କ ହସ୍ତାକ୍ଷର ଦିଅନ୍ତୁ। ପ୍ରତ୍ୟେକ ଓଡ଼ିଆଂକୁ ସେୟାର କରନ୍ତୁ।

କାରଣ, କୋଣାର୍କ ପୁନଃ ଶ୍ୱାସ ନେଲେ, ଓଡ଼ିଶା ର ସ୍ୱର୍ଣିମ ଯୁଗ ର ଅବଲୋକନ ହେବ, ଯାତି ର ଉତ୍ସାହ ଫେରିବ, ଓଡିଶା ବିଶ୍ୱ ମାନଚିତ୍ର ରେ ଆଉ ବେଶି ଆଲୋକିତ ହେବ।
