Restore funding, support Interlake's award-winning Music program

Restore funding, support Interlake's award-winning Music program
The Issue
Bellevue School District's budget cuts have impacted our music program at Interlake.
In the past, Jazz 1 and Jazz 2 were taught separately by two directors. Students of all levels received personalized instruction. We were all able to participate meaningfully. Suddenly, the two groups have been placed under one director. This is like placing JV and Varsity under one coach - with joint training times.
We have lost our Jazz 2 director because the District is unable to pay for Zero Period. Now, our Jazz 1 director must manage 50 students at once, while trying to maintain the same quality of music. The teacher has less time with each student and instrument. This decision was made without consulting Interlake music community, and we believe BSD can do better. Here's why this is important...
Our award-winning music program provides the soundtrack to life at Interlake: at Assembly; at Home Games; special performances at Graduation and Christmas, and so much more. We are proud to represent our school at competitions, parades, and music festivals.
Jazz is an important part of this music program. It is a community, not just a class. We get to school at 7am every day to practice. It is our happy place. Jazz 1 and Jazz 2 directors share a special bond with us, students. We need the District to bring our Jazz 2 Director back to Zero Period.
Please support us by signing this petition.
Update: Hello everyone, we’re back to school from mid-winter break. As many of you know by now, we have our Jazz 2 director back! By special arrangement with the school and BSD our Jazz 2 director visits us as a clinician. This message is to thank every person who signed the petition and sent letters to BSD. We also wish to thank our school leaders and BSD for working so hard, together with our Interlake Music Parents Association to make this possible. Thanks for supporting Music and Arts in Bellevue School District.
