Restore Fair and Reasonable Street Parking Options to Lakeridge Park

Restore Fair and Reasonable Street Parking Options to Lakeridge Park

Subject: Restore Fair and Reasonable Street Parking Options for Residents and Visitors
We, the residents of Lakeridge Park respectfully request that the appropriate authorities reconsider the recently implemented bylaw prohibiting all street and shoulder parking within our community.
While we understand and support the importance of pedestrian safety, emergency access, and neighborhood order, a complete ban on street parking is excessively restrictive and is having real consequences for residents, families, and the overall livability of our neighborhood.
Many of us chose to live here because of the community’s welcoming spirit and the space to connect with others — yet this new rule makes even small gatherings, family visits, and community events nearly impossible. Homes with steep or limited driveways cannot safely accommodate all vehicles, especially for aging relatives, friends visiting from out of town, or multi-vehicle households.
This regulation is:
• Socially isolating — preventing families from hosting holidays, birthdays, and community gatherings;
• Disadvantaging to seniors — who may not be able to safely navigate steep driveways;
• Economically harmful — as several residents have reported potential buyers deciding against purchasing here due to the lack of street parking; and
• Unnecessary for safety — as other municipalities achieve pedestrian and emergency access through reasonable, balanced parking restrictions rather than total bans.
We urge the relevant authorities to replace the blanket prohibition with a more practical, community-friendly approach — such as:
Allowing street or shoulder parking for up to three consecutive days, on one side of the street on the shoulders will ensure vehicles are moved regularly, and open the road to safety vehicles while still allowing residents to host guests and maintain a healthy social life.
This approach protects safety, prevents long-term vehicle storage on the roads, and restores the sense of connection and belonging that our community values deeply.
We love our neighborhood and want to work with the relevant authorities to find solutions that honor both safety and community. We believe this adjustment would achieve that balance and strengthen our shared goals. We hope the relevant authorities will continue to creatively look for solutions to this problem which is having a deep impact on our community. Thank you so much.
With appreciation and respect,
Residents of Lakeridge Park
