After more than 20 years in practice without a single finding of patient harm, the Virginia Board of Physical Therapy ultimately concluded that I was:
• Safe and Competent
• Responsible for No Patient Harm
• Not Proven to Have Violated Key Allegations
Yet the result was still:
• A 4+ year suspension
• Indefinite restrictions
• National reporting
• Severe professional consequences
The issue is larger than my individual case.
If accepted standards, documented consent, positive outcomes, contemporaneous documentation, and expert validation are still insufficient to protect a clinician from career-ending sanctions, then professional standards themselves lose meaning.
This visual summarizes some of the central contradictions that remained unresolved throughout multiple proceedings.
At some point, every licensed professional should ask:
If the record cannot protect you, what does?
