Restore Cork-Lisbon route

Restore Cork-Lisbon route
The Issue
I am a Portuguese national who has made Cork my home, where I have built my life, career, and family — like so many others in our community. The Cork–Lisbon route, previously operated in 2018, was more than just a flight; it was a vital connection that allowed us to maintain family bonds, cultural ties, and strong personal and professional links between Ireland and Portugal.
For the growing Portuguese community in Cork, this route made travel for family visits, work, and cultural exchange realistic and sustainable. Its absence has forced longer, more expensive, and less environmentally friendly journeys through other airports, creating unnecessary strain on families and communities. At the same time, Lisbon remains a deeply important part of who we are, even as Cork is where our roots are now firmly planted.
Lisbon is one of Europe’s most vibrant and desirable capital cities, as well as a major international travel hub. A direct Cork–Lisbon route would strengthen Cork Airport’s European connectivity and provide easy access to Portugal for travellers across the Munster region. It would also benefit Brazilian communities living in Ireland, as Lisbon is a key gateway to Brazil with extensive onward connections.
For Irish travellers, Portugal is an increasingly popular destination. A direct flight from Cork would open access not only to Lisbon, but also to the south‑west coast of Portugal, as well as Madeira and the Azores — all highly attractive and easily reached via Lisbon. Daily connections to Porto and Faro further make Lisbon an ideal gateway to the entire country.
Reinstating the Cork–Lisbon route would support tourism, business, and cultural exchange while helping Cork Airport grow as a key gateway for southern Ireland. This is not just a matter of convenience — it is about meaningful connectivity for families, communities, and the wider region.
By signing this petition, you are supporting a better‑connected, more inclusive Cork and helping to bring back a route that truly matters.
