Dear 119,208 of you,

Thank you all for your support of this campaign to restore children's cartoons in asylum centres.

The Open Letter from Kent Artists really helped to up the pressure on this issue and had powerful local news coverage today from KentLive. Please share it widely. Thank you to everyone who supported their action by engaging in their post - and of course, the local community that rallied behind this!

The news coverage states that “KentLive has approached the Home Office for comment about the open letter and it did not wish to comment.” But the good news is, artists in Kent sent the letter to local MPs and managed to secure a meeting with one of their MPs - Roger Gale. We hope that he will work with us to restore the cartoons.

We have also had a response from Stephen Kinnock - the Shadow Immigration Minister. The reply included: “I share your concern at this shocking decision by Ministers. As I said during the Parliamentary debate on the government’s Illegal Migration Act, I found it utterly astonishing and deeply depressing it was to hear the Minister attempting to justify the erasure of Disney cartoons on the basis of their not being age-appropriate.” We have responded to see if he would consider working with our campaign further and hope to hear back soon.

An ask
We will have more actions soon - and are waiting before approaching more MPs. In the meantime, it would be wonderful if you could continue sharing the petition and the news coverage widely - and a reminder that we’re on Instagram here: @cartoonsnotcruelty

If you're feeling creative this weekend, we're still welcoming any contributions to our draw action here.
