Dear 105,509 of you,
Whilst updates have been a little slower this week, there has been lots of campaigning activity from you all to share!
Open Letter: The Kent Community is taking a stand
In Kent where the cartoons were removed from asylum centres, people have taken a strong stand against this happening on their doorstep. Over 130 artists and creatives rallied behind and signed an open letter to say that the removal does not reflect Kent’s values and they say they are on standby to help repaint the centres. Will you support them by liking/sharing/commenting on the Instagram post here?
We tagged Suella Braverman and Robert Jenrick in the post so the more support you can give to the open letter, the more pressure will build.
The Kent community have written to their MPs asking for support too - and in the meantime have said they'll work with local businesses and venues to install welcoming art in solidarity.
Parliament is in recess
This means that there is a break in the House of Commons/Lords. This is partly why things are a little quiet right now, but we’re planning some actions for when they are back.
Draw action
We’ve received some beautiful drawings of kindness and have posted some of them to our Instagram channel. We’ve also received poems, ideas, welcome embroidery, crafts - all of which are great additions to the campaign. We received some really important feedback that not everyone is able to draw - and this made us realise we need to be clear that we appreciate and welcome any campaign contributions you have - in any form that works for you! Thank you for the feedback and support!
Freedom of Information request
We asked how much was spent on removing the murals and whether policies were in place around such removals from centres. We’re due a response by the 18th August, so will let you know when we hear back.
We’ll be in touch with more actions and updates soon, but for now - thank you for all of your ongoing support!
