Why did I create two petitions to Restore Island Rail?
I knew that there are a ton of people passionate about our railway being restored, but not everyone is willing to sign a House of Commons Petition. It actually worries me a little that people are hesitant to sign, it's a concern about the state of our democracy. https://petitions.ourcommons.ca/en/Petition/Details?Petition=e-4576
While I worked to get the wording of the motion right, and worked to get an MP onboard, I set up this petition to give those a place to support it should they be afraid or hesitant to sign the official house of commons petition.
If you are hesitant to sign the Official House of Commons Petition, please tell me why on any of my social media channels.
Since I pointed this petition at Rob Fleming, the B.C. Transportation and Infrastructure Minister, and Pablo Rodriguez, the Canadian Transportation Minister that recent replaced Omar Alghabra, they will hear about the rapidly growing numbers.
There are over 5000 supporters on change now, and 618 on the House of Commons petition.
Just so you are aware, nothing I am doing is meant to circumvent the reconciliation process with First Nations, but for reconciliation to occur, the Federal Government needs to apply dedicated resources to it. Para 1 speaks to that.
"We, the undersigned, Citizens of Canada, call upon the Government of Canada to:
1. Work with dedicated resources and with a nation-to-nation approach to reconcile and resolve long-standing First Nations’ concerns with certain sections of the Island Corridor;"
Sign today. https://petitions.ourcommons.ca/en/Petition/Details?Petition=e-4576
