The Issue

It's time to take a stand for civic engagement and transparency in our local government. The current schedule of Chattanooga's county council meetings, held at 9 AM on alternating Wednesday mornings significantly hinders public participation. Originally convened at 4 PM on alternating Tuesdays and Thursdays, these meetings were accessible to citizens who work traditional hours, allowing them to voice their opinions and stay informed about community decisions. The change to morning hours excludes many from being actively involved, effectively silencing the voices of those who are meant to be represented.

Chattanooga thrives on community involvement and diversity of opinion, and by restoring these meetings to their original times, we can ensure that all working citizens have the opportunity to attend, participate, and hold elected officials accountable. It is unfair that those with traditional work schedules are unable to express their concerns or support for policies directly affecting their lives.

According to a study by the National Civic League, communities with high civic engagement demonstrate improved public trust and better outcomes in policy development. By reverting to the previously established times, Chattanooga can lead by example, fostering a more inclusive and transparent process that represents all constituents.

Join us in calling for our local leaders to restore meeting times to 4 PM on alternating Tuesdays and Thursdays, ensuring they are accessible to everyone, not just those with flexible hours. By signing this petition, you champion a more inclusive, democratic process for all Chattanooga citizens. Stand with us in demanding change that supports true community involvement and transparency. Please sign and help us make our voices heard.
