Resolve traffic congestion around Tir Prince Market
The Issue
Fix the Traffic Chaos Around Tir Prince Market in Towyn
The severe traffic congestion surrounding Tir Prince Market and its adjacent car park in Towyn has become a major and ongoing issue for the local community, especially on market days and during large events.
Vehicles queueing to enter the Tir Prince car park regularly back onto the main road, causing traffic to build up for miles. The current traffic management and parking system clearly is not working and urgent improvements are needed.
Traffic is now frequently queueing over Sandcove Bridge, creating serious safety concerns. If an emergency vehicle needed to get through the area quickly, access could be severely delayed due to the gridlocked traffic. This is unacceptable and poses a risk to public safety.
The congestion causes major disruption for local residents, commuters, businesses, public transport services, and emergency services. Buses are delayed daily, people are late for work, and residents are left stuck in unnecessary traffic for long periods of time.
This issue should primarily be addressed by the owners and operators of Tir Prince Market. However, Conwy County Borough Council also has a responsibility to ensure the public highway remains safe and unobstructed. The council should be taking enforcement action where necessary to stop traffic from blocking the highway and affecting access for emergency services and public transport.
We are calling for immediate action to:
Improve traffic management around Tir Prince Market
Prevent queues from blocking the public highway
Review and replace the current parking entry system
Explore additional access routes into the site
Protect reliable access for buses and emergency vehicles
The roads through Towyn should remain safe and accessible for everyone, not brought to a standstill for hours at a time.
By signing this petition, you are supporting safer roads, improved traffic flow, and urgent action to finally address this long-standing problem.
