Thank you to all who have signed.  As at 22 Nov 2025 we have 1,187 signatures on change.org and another 203 on paper from various social clubs. 

I have had 2 meetings with representatives from The Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) an international non-profit organization that works to end overfishing by setting standards for sustainable fishing and certifying seafood products and Direção-Geral de Alimentação e Veterinária (DGAV), the Portuguese equivalent of the Australian Biosecurity department. These meetings are to establish whether there is scientific evidence to certify the Portuguese sardines to the extent that it validates that  the presence of the disease  of viral haemorrhagic septicaemia virus (VHSV), a disease of concern to Australia is not present.

The petition signatures are evidence to support the strength and desire of the Portuguese community to bring the portuguese sardines back to Australia.

Agradeço a todos que assinaram. Em 22 de novembro de 2025, tínhamos 1.187 assinaturas no Change.org e outras 203 em papel, provenientes de diversos clubes sociais.

Ate agora realizei duas reuniões com representantes do Marine Stewardship Council (MSC), uma organização internacional sem fins lucrativos que trabalha para acabar com a sobrepesca, estabelecendo padrões para a pesca sustentável e certificando produtos do mar, e com representantes da Direção-Geral de Alimentação e Veterinária (DGAV), o equivalente português ao departamento de biossegurança australiano. O objetivo dessas reuniões é verificar se existem evidências científicas que justifiquem a certificação das sardinhas portuguesas, comprovando a ausência do vírus da septicemia hemorrágica viral (VHSV), uma doença que preocupa a Austrália.

As assinaturas da petição comprovam a força e o desejo da comunidade portuguesa de trazer as sardinhas portuguesas de volta à Austrália.
