Dr. Karim Kurji was one of the first medical officers to request his region to open for business. York Region borders Covid-19 hotspots Peel and Toronto. His decision led to people from those same closed areas travel to into York Region to use businesses and services and spread Covid-19 thus contributing to the 3rd wave.  

More recently medical officers in those same regions have invoked their section 22 powers to close schools in their regions to help curb the spread. Dr. Kurji has remained silent. When opening he was on TV for his 5 minutes of fame, now that his decision hasn't worked, he is no longer responding to emails and avoiding any public appearances.

If you ignore what is being said by politicians who are completely biased to their individual political party agendas, and just look at the data by itself, the single most effective thing anyone can do is close schools to the stop spread. It was the driver in cases coming down in waves 1 and 2.

Cases go up, close schools, cases go down, it's a fact. It's been proven. Dr. Kurji has section 22 powers the same as Dr. Loh in Peel but he is refusing to use them. Dr. Kurji needs to go.

The Minister of Education who shares selective data and case %’s during his press conferences has advocated for schools to stay open and he is also in the Region of York. Dr. Kurji doesn’t want to go against Minister Lecce’s advice. It should be the other way around. Dr.Kurji needs to go.

No one prefers schools to be closed to in class learning. Its inconvenient, stressful and difficult to deal with. That said, closing schools is clearly required and Dr. Karim Kurji refuses to acknowledge this as his counterparts have already done. He needs to be removed from his role and we need a real health leader in York who cares for our health above all else.
