For 63 years Cloverdale Mall has been a staple of the Suburb of Etobicoke, serving residents of the West end since its opening when Etobicoke was still in development. This was one of Toronto's first malls and the first mall in the west end. Cloverdale Mall is actually older then Square One Mall, Toronto's Eaton Centre, and Sherway Gardens Mall.

First started as an open concept mall where the main walkways of the mall were open to the elements (much like todays Toronto Premium Outlets in Halton Hills) residents and shoppers were treated to innovation changing technology, children entertainment and activities, and a shopping experience that was not seen before in this city. Anyone can take a walk down memory lane by walking down the hallway leading to the restrooms and see the impact this mall had on the community, a newly establishing area of Etobicoke and Toronto as a whole.

Recently a developer, QuadReal Property Group has announced plans to redevelop Cloverdale Mall into a mixed use area involving several condominiums and apartments. The retail area would comprise of less than half of the current spaces at Cloverdale Mall. The development of this property would require a full demolition of Cloverdale Mall to move forward. This would be a significant impact on the community that has relied on this mall for many many years, as well this would eliminate a staple, an icon of the suburb of Etobicoke. As a resident born and raised in Etobicoke, I alone have fond memories of Cloverdale and my many visits to this iconic mall. This is also unfair seeing as a neighbouring mall, Honeydale Mall sits less then 2 km away lays vacated and waiting for development. Honeydale Mall has sat dormant for as much as 7 years yet developers want to demolish a successful iconic property like Cloverdale.

Please, we need to band together and sign this petition and tell the City of Toronto NOT to allow re-development of Cloverdale Mall. Please take a moment and sign this petition, then tell your friends, family and anyone who has ever been impacted by Cloverdale Mall, or the community of central Etobicoke. Please also take a moment and email the Director of Development of QuadReal, Ben Gilbank at ben.gilbank@quadreal.com, the Vice President of Development Aaron Knight aaron.knight@quadreal.com and the CEO Dennis Lopez at dennislopez@quadreal.com and tell them you are NOT ok with this plan to demolish Cloverdale Mall.
