At this point in the mission one of the biggest ways for people to help out is to donate towards the cost of the legal fees with appealing the city council's decision to not move forward to an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS). We (CAMP) are being represented by Marshall Tanick of Meyer, Njus, Tanick in Minneapolis. You can learn more about him here.
With this project being proposed on agricultural land next to a designated wildlife lake, a cemetery, a small town and adjacent rural residents, there are many concerns that should be thoroughly studied to ensure possible mitigation is appropriate for the area.
- A 10 foot berm with a 10 foot wall on top is something seen in the metro areas along I35, 494, 694, etc. This is the proposed solution to noise concerns and was thought to be "aesthetically pleasing". Is it? And what if that doesn't work?
- Fast moving traffic on Hwy 14 along Eagle Lake has been a concern for years. 2 intersections were changed to J/R-Turns 4 years ago, while CR56/Hwy 14 (by Casey's) is still a traditional intersection, with many close calls, and sadly some fatal accidents. Expanding across Hwy 14 with industrial (or other development) will increase traffic on this segment of Hwy 14. No matter how the intersections are designed, it's up to the drivers to follow the expected traffic patterns and laws.
- With the site recently being a harvested wheatfield, the geese have come out in great abundance, as well as some sandhill cranes. These are just some of the many residents of the nearby lake. Should the wall not be enough to keep them from the facility what other measures is the developer prepared to take?
There are many other concerns (that have been discussed already) and that is why this Environmental Impact Statement is so important. “Build it now and fix it later” isn’t the process that should be applied here, nor should it be the precedent going forward if this project receives approval.
Unfortunately after the city council voted to not move forward with EIS, the next step involves the legal system and that is where we are now. To stop the “Build it now and fix it later” we have to go to “Find the problems now and avoid the issues later”.
And we need frustrated, concerned and in some cases -angry- citizens to please help out! We have set up a GoFundMe account and we understand that not everyone is comfortable donating online. We have set up an address where donations can be mailed to as well:
Citizens Against Motorsports Park
P.O. Box 21
Madison Lake, MN 56063
We respect any donors wish to remain private and all donations go towards the legal costs of the appeal case with Citizens Against Motorsports Park vs. The City of Eagle Lake and Bradford Development.
Thank you for your support and if you'd like more information you can visit our website.
Even if you can't donate at this time, we would appreciate if you could please share this petition and/or the GoFundMe link. Thank you again!
