The Issue

Being a healthcare professional is not just a job; it is a calling. In our field, skills can be taught, but the essential qualities of empathy, compassion, and respect must come from within. In healthcare, profit cannot be the bottom line. When residents feel seen, heard, and safe, families feel trust, care improves, and naturally, profits follow. Unfortunately, under the dysfunctional management of the administrator Chy’Kela Caldwell at The Landings of Swansboro, I've been moved to advocate for change.

The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (NCDHHS) must take immediate action to suspend and terminate the Assisted Living Administrator Certification. The current leadership has demonstrated consistent noncompliance with NCDHHS policies and procedures between February 2025 and April 2026. This noncompliance indicates an alarming pattern of negligence toward both residents and staff.

Reported incidents have illustrated unethical practices and behavior by the leadership at The Landings of Swansboro, leading to situations that caused, or could have caused, direct harm to staff and residents. This pattern of behavior cannot continue unaddressed without compromising the safety and welfare of vulnerable individuals who reside in this community.

Unprofessional conduct and incompetence in healthcare settings are unacceptable. These issues are not only breaches of compliance but deeply affect the lives and well-being of residents relying on their caregivers for safety and quality of life.

We need the NCDHHS to hold leadership accountable, ensuring administrators in these roles are qualified, ethical, and capable of fulfilling their duties responsibly. Residents and staff deserve an environment free from fear and filled with the care and dignity they deserve.

Sign this petition to urge the NCDHHS to enforce strict measures and initiate the immediate suspension and revocation of the Assisted Living Administrator’s Certification at The Landings of Swansboro. Let's protect those who cannot protect themselves and rebuild trust in our healthcare community.
