The Issue

On April 15th, Mosab Abu Toha was invited to the Le Moyne College campus to talk about his writings on the ongoing genocide in Palestine. Naturally, he used the word genocide quite a bit, as that is what he believed the situation there to be. The use of the word seemed to bring the ire of Le Moyne's president, Linda Lemura, who released a statement in a recent issue of the Campus Announcements against Toha's wording.

"During the event, the speaker used the word “genocide” in connection with the State of Israel. I recognize the profound historical weight this term carries for the Jewish people and the real hurt its use can cause. We take these concerns seriously."

This statement, along with the rest of her words, seemed to disregard the tens of thousands of lives ended by Israeli forces in the past two and a half years. She also did not at any point in the statement name Toha directly, which according to him reduced him to a floating microphone rather than a human being. This petition is written in order to convince the administration to not only rescind their statement, but to directly apologize to Mosab for their dehumanizing statements.
