CHA quietly voted in a new CEO without clearly telling the public, and now residents are demanding that vote be reversed.

This petition is supported by community organizations working to protect transparency and accountability in public housing, including the Lugenia Burns Hope Center, Chicago Housing Initiative, and Working Family Solidarity.

The Chicago Housing Authority (CHA) voted to appoint a new CEO on March 17, 2026, without clearly informing the public.

The meeting agenda only listed “Approval of Personnel Matters” and did not specify that a CEO vote would take place. Because of this, residents and community members were denied a fair opportunity to attend, stay informed, and provide input on a major decision that directly impacts public housing in Chicago.

Public housing residents deserve transparency and a voice in decisions that affect their communities. When major actions are taken without clear notice, it undermines public trust and raises serious concerns about accountability.

We, the undersigned residents and supporters of public housing in Chicago, are calling on the Chicago Housing Authority (CHA) to rescind its March 17, 2026, vote to appoint a new Chief Executive Officer.

Public agencies are required to operate with transparency and accountability. The Illinois Open Meetings Act ensures that the public has the right to know what decisions are being made and to participate in the process.

When decisions are made without clear notice, it undermines trust and shuts the public out of its own government.

 
We are calling on CHA to:

• Rescind the March 17, 2026 CEO vote due to lack of proper public notice
• Restart the CEO selection process with full transparency
• Provide clear, detailed public agendas for all major decisions
• Ensure residents have a real opportunity to attend and give input before votes take place
