The Issue

The Milton High School Track team is the biggest and most inclusive athletic team at the school- on top of that- they are the D3 Indoor Track Champions and sent a record number of athletes to Indoor Nationals. This is a strong team Milton can be proud of. But now they have a challenge in front of them that they need our support for.

The Seniors of 2025 have been through a lot, and due to the challenges presented by the COVID pandemic, they've already missed the shared experiences of school trips, events, and their 8th-grade graduation. Now, our hardworking student athletes face another potential disappointment: a scheduling conflict between Milton High School’s graduation ceremony and the Division 3 Outdoor Track State Championships at Westfield State University on June 1st. Due to the ceremony's afternoon schedule, these students have to choose between missing their graduation ceremony and missing the culminating athletic competition of their high school career.

We propose Milton Public Schools to reconsider and conduct the graduation ceremony in the morning of June 1st, rather than the afternoon. This schedule change would enable our student athletes to take part in their graduation alongside their peers, a landmark moment in their lives, and allow sufficient time to travel to the Division 3 Track Championships. The importance of these ceremonies for students cannot be underestimated. Participating in graduation ceremonies can significantly improve a student's sense of accomplishment and pride, and having the entire graduating class together further deepens the meaningfulness of the ceremony. Missing the competition would also result in a significant reduction of ability for Milton High to retain the title of D3 State Champions.

This is not merely about rescheduling an event; it's about showing our appreciation for our students' dedication in both academics and athletics, without making them choose between the two. Let's be part of the solution for these dedicated seniors and the entire senior class who have given so much to Milton community. Please sign the petition and stand with our students.
