The Issue

The conflict between the IHSA girls lacrosse games and the NCAA Final Four presents a unique challenge this year. For the first time in history, the NCAA Final Four will be hosted in the Midwest, an occurrence that offers an extraordinary opportunity for young athletes and sports enthusiasts in the region to experience high-level women’s lacrosse firsthand. However, the scheduled timing of the IHSA girls lacrosse games directly clashes with this historic event, forcing players, families, and coaches to make an unfair choice between participating in their own games and attending the Final Four.

The state of Illinois prides itself on supporting youth sports and education, but when such memorable events overlap, it inadvertently limits the unique experiences our young athletes can have. The NCAA Final Four is more than just a game; it’s an inspiration, a chance to witness determination and sportsmanship at its finest. It’s crucial for aspiring athletes to have the chance to be inspired by collegiate players to fuel their dreams and ambitions.

By rescheduling the IHSA girls lacrosse games, we can provide these young athletes the opportunity to fully participate in both their own competitions and the Final Four experience. Adjusting the schedule would demonstrate a commitment to not only supporting youth sports but also to enhancing the sporting culture and educational experiences available to our athletes.

This is a call to the host schools to consider the best interests of the student-athletes and the potential impact on their future. Let's work together to ensure that the schedule change is feasible and beneficial for everyone involved.

Please sign this petition to urge New Trier and all other host schools to reschedule the girls lacrosse games so our athletes won’t have to miss this once-in-a-lifetime experience.
