The Issue

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) in India has recently conducted the Physics examination merely a day after the Physical Education (PE) exam for the 12th standard students. This scheduling leaves students with an extremely tight timeframe to revise the comprehensive Physics syllabus effectively. With such a dense curriculum to cover, it is unrealistic to expect students to perform at their best with only one day of preparation time.

The CBSE Physics syllabus is known for being vast and requires significant time to master. Adequate preparation is crucial for students to not only understand complex concepts but also solve extensive numerical problems, derivations, and theoretical questions. A single day between exams does not provide the students enough time to revise thoroughly and approach the exam with confidence.

The mental and emotional stress of having back-to-back exams can negatively affect students' performance and well-being. It is essential for educational bodies to recognize the pressure such scheduling places on students. By reconsidering and adjusting the exam timetable to allow more time for preparation between major subjects, the CBSE can better support student success.

We understand that timetabling is a complex task. However, we propose that major subject exams, like Physics, should be scheduled with ample preparation gaps. This would ensure students have a realistic opportunity to revise adequately and perform to the best of their abilities, ultimately reflecting a fair assessment of their knowledge and understanding.

We urge the CBSE to look into this matter and consider rescheduling the Physics examination planned for future sequences, especially during the main board exams taking place in March. Providing students with adequate revision time will foster a less stressful and more equitable examination process.

Sign this petition to call on the CBSE to prioritize the educational needs and mental well-being of students by rescheduling the Physics exam to offer fair and sufficient preparation time.
