Require Wessex Water to stop sewage discharge in Wriggle Valley area

Require Wessex Water to stop sewage discharge in Wriggle Valley area
The Issue
Living in a picturesque part of Dorset, Yetminster, residents like me have cherished the tranquil beauty and the pristine natural environment that surrounds us.
However, a grave situation is threatening our way of life and the health of our community. Untreated sewage is being discharged from sewers onto the highways at Brister End and Brierly Hay. This discharge poses serious health risks to us all, not just from potential direct contact but also from the broader environmental impacts it leads to.
Moreover, the embodiment of natural beauty and biodiversity, the River Wriggle, is under threat due to the pumping stations at Leigh and Beer Hackett releasing untreated sewage directly into it. This practice is not only compromising the ecosystem but also endangering the species that call the river home. The continued assault on both our land and our water is unsustainable and irresponsible.
Continuing to allow untreated waste into our environment poses a clear and present danger to public health. This negligence is evidenced by increased bacteria levels which is bound to affect local children, elderly and those with health conditions the worst. Further destruction of our riverine ecosystems has long-term repercussions, including the loss of fish, birds and natural plants that cannot thrive in such conditions.
Immediate solutions should be enforced by tightening regulations. Wessex Water must be required to upgrade their waste management systems to ensure that sewage is treated appropriately before any discharge. Moreover, regular audits and stricter monitoring protocols could serve as deterrence against non-compliance.
We urge the Dorset Authorities and Wessex Water to take immediate action and put an end to the abuse of our waterways and land. Proper investments need to be made into infrastructure improvements to prevent further release of untreated sewage and protect the health and well-being of Yetminster's community and its beautiful surroundings.
Sign this petition to demand accountable and sustainable practices from Wessex Water, to preserve the sanctity of our environment, and to safeguard the health of our residents and wildlife.
Together, we can make our voices heard for a cleaner, safer Dorset.
