Over the past few months, a great deal has been achieved, through a huge amount of determination, teamwork and constructive engagement with partner organisations.
Following our successful public meeting, we have continued working closely with Wessex Water, the Environment Agency, Dorset Council, Edward Morello MP, Yeovil Rivers Community Trust and other stakeholders to tackle the long-standing issues of flooding, sewer surcharging and pollution affecting Brister End, Brierly Hay and the River Wriggle.
Some positive developments include:
✅ Wessex Water investigating infrastructure performance to ascertain if they contribute to the sewer surcharging.
✅ Dorset Council clearing numerous blocked highway drains reported by the group, helping to improve drainage through Brister End.
✅ Requests submitted for highway drainage maps to establish how surface water systems connect and whether they contribute to sewer overload.
✅ Continued water quality monitoring and pollution investigations within the Wriggle catchment.
✅ Progress on our community-led rainwater management project aimed at reducing clean rainwater entering the combined sewer system.
✅ Support from Wessex Water for dedicated new Rainwater Management Advisors to help communities such as ours develop practical solutions.
More exciting news to be announced at the meeting on Friday 5th June
