A very positive step forward for the B.E.S.T. (Brister End Sponge Trial) project and the wider aims of the W.A.T.E.R. community group.
Following last Thursday’s public meeting in Yetminster, Matt Wheeldon, Director of Infrastructure Development at WessexWater, has confirmed that he has already drafted a paper requesting permission to recruit two dedicated Rainwater Management Advisers.
These advisers would work directly with communities to help deliver practical rainwater harvesting and management solutions, exactly the type of proactive, community-led approach being promoted here in the Wriggle Valley.
The meeting itself saw a highly engaged audience of local residents, positive discussions, and strong support for improving how clean rainwater is managed to help reduce pressure on combined sewers and improve the health of the River Wriggle.
This is a really encouraging development and shows what can be achieved when communities, environmental groups, and organisations work together with a shared vision for long-term environmental resilience.
Thank you again to everyone who attended, contributed, and continues to support the project. The momentum is building.
