UPDATE: Brister End Sponge Trial (B.E.S.T.) Moving Forward
Today I had a very positive meeting with Edward Morello MP in Yetminster. We discuss the ongoing issue of untreated sewage surcharging from the combined sewer system at Brister End and Brierly Hay and discharges from Combined Sewer Overflows (CSO's)
.
✅ The proposed rainwater harvesting pilot project received full support
✅ Clear next steps were discussed and agreed
✅ Strong backing for forming a community-led group
We both agreed that the next crucial step is bringing the community together to take this forward.
I also shared that my recent meeting with Wessex Water’s Julian Okoye was encouraging, with further discussions planned around potential support and funding for the project.
It was disappointing to report that Yetminster, Ryme Intrinseca & Hamlet Parish Council had not yet shown support. However, we remain hopeful that they will stand with the community as the project progresses.
Encouragingly, neighbouring Parish Councils have been supportive and are keen to work with the group, helping to develop ideas and actively lobby for meaningful change.
