Over 1,100 signatures tonight — thank you!

The support for this campaign continues to grow, with the petition now passing 1,100 signatures this evening. I have also had several very positive and encouraging conversations today with people who want to help improve the future of our river.

Earlier today I carried out water quality testing on a tributary downstream of a Combined Sewer Overflow (CSO). The overflow has not discharged for several days, so the results, expected within 48 hours, will provide a useful baseline. This will allow us to compare water quality before and after any future discharge events.

This evening I attended a very interesting and informative meeting at The Friary with the Wriggle River Improvement Group. This is a group I helped form over three years ago together with the Yeovil Rivers Community Trust.

The group works with local landowners, farmers and organisations across the Wriggle catchment to address issues such as flooding, water quality and waste along riverbanks. It also provides a friendly network where people can share knowledge, experience and practical solutions.

By working together across the community we can protect and improve the future of the River Wriggle and push for the changes needed to stop untreated sewage flowing onto our roads and into our waterways.

As the campaign continues to grow, there will be many more tasks ahead. Establishing a dedicated community group will help ensure a structured and effective approach to turning ideas into real action.

* Updated at 2314 hours * - Sadly reviewing the current situation of the CSO's I note that the Beer Hackett CSO has been discharging since 2144 hours and one at Leigh has discharged a number of times so far totalling 50 mins 😞
