The incredible support being shown for this petition is sending a very clear message to those responsible for managing our water: change must happen now.
Over the past few days I have seen evidence from a number of local sources which confirms that our river is in a very poor state.
Yet we are increasingly being told that we should simply accept this — that this is the “new normal.”
I do not accept that, and neither should any of us.
While out walking I did come across one clear watercourse (photo attached). It reminded me how our rivers used to be just a few years ago, clear water, healthy flow, and obvious signs of life.
Not the cloudy, brown, foam-covered and lifeless watercourses we are now seeing in too many places.
Thank you to everyone who has been in contact and shown support. It is encouraging to see the growing interest from local residents, the Sustainable Thornford group, Thornhackett and Bradford Abbas Parish Councils, and District Councillor Kippax.
I am still awaiting responses from the management of Wessex Water and the Environment Agency, and I will share updates when they arrive.
Please keep the support going.
Over the coming days I will also share ways in which people can become actively involved in protecting the River Wriggle and the wider Wriggle Valley.
How we can help to reduce the discharging of untreated sewage at Brister End and Combined Sewer Overflows along our river with help and assistance from the water company, Environment Agency and Councillors.
Thank you.
Paul
