I oppose the budget reserve proposal as it misuses the term "betterment" to justify reserves that do not serve the interests of all residents in our community. True betterment should encompass equitable benefits that enhance the quality of life for everyone, not just a select few. This proposal fails to prioritize the diverse needs of our community, and it is essential that we direct our resources toward initiatives that truly foster inclusivity and collective progress. Let's focus on solutions that ensure betterment for all, rather than placing reserves towards projects that will negatively impact the lives and property values of many residents.
And yes, at least two companies provided proposals in July of this year. This has been going on for months, regardless of whether all board members were aware of it.
This video is from a friend whose home is 325 feet away from 4 pickleball courts on a small lake. Essentially this is the position 3 buildings in Blue Heron will find themselves in if the currently planned site is used. The circle in the graphic above indicates, using a study from St. Augustine, Florida golf club - how far away they proposed residences should be from pickleball courts. Is there an area in our tranquil community that should be exposed to this?
Why not, as Don Cumming suggested in the ACSA board meeting, apply the 100K reserve to FINALLY repairing and making accessible the Beach Club property via the chair lift? In speaking to Spoonbill yesterday, I was told EIGHT residents of that neighborhood cannot use the beach club because of this ongoing problem. Fix that. That's 'betterment'.
Why not build up the reserves for the required community pool project? That's betterment.
Keep circulating this petition. Get your board members to hear us before this budget is approved or we'll be in this situation, sent to me by Melanie who made the linked video:
"Please learn from the mistakes made at our association. We are a community of less that 2000 homes. Four courts were built approx. 325 feet from our home, which sits on a small lake. The sound is unbearable and will have negative health affects. After almost three years of asking our Board and General Manager for sound mitigation either through paddles, balls or screening, Nothing has been done, we are beginning a lawsuit with a few other neighbors. Many neighbors are elderly and say they just keep all the windows closed and some don't even go to the front or back of the home so that they don't have to listen to the noise. At least one home has fallen out of escrow due to the noise and it is definitely affecting property values. Title and the HOA give Pickleball disclosures while in escrow. I played collegiate tennis, and love any sport, but especially racket sports. This sport has a serious issue that USA Pickleball knows about, but can't figure out how to fix it. It's all in the ball...foam ball = no problems. Plastic ball = thousands of lawsuits. Feel free to listen to what I hear in my kitchen starting as early as 7 am!! It's the worst...don't allow them to be built unless in a closed in, sound proof building!!"
As stated yesterday - not Anti-Pickleball. Pro impact assessment before ANYTHING is set aside in the budget and we head down this slippery slope.
- Before it's in the budget.
- Before a contract is awarded to any of the companies that have provided quotes.
- Before a shovel hits the ground...
We need this petition circulated to prove to our board members that our concerns are legitimate. http://change.org/pickleball-impact
