The Issue

In Moore, Oklahoma, we, the residents, pride ourselves on our tight-knit community and personal freedoms. However, those freedoms are now under threat due to the installation of Flock AI enabled tracking and monitoring devices in our town. Like many others, I feel this is not just an infringement on my personal privacy, but on the privacy rights of every single member of our community.

Our city is witnessing a concerning rise in surveillance technology, with these AI devices capturing and analyzing the movements of our vehicles without our explicit consent. While proponents of such technology might argue that these devices enhance security, we must ask ourselves: at what cost? The widespread use of these technologies poses serious risks to the privacy rights guaranteed to us by the Constitution.

Studies have shown that the presence of surveillance cameras and monitoring devices often leads to a chilling effect on personal freedoms. In an environment where we know we are constantly being watched, our behavior changes and our sense of autonomy diminishes. This is not the kind of community we want in Moore—a place where people feel under scrutiny every time they step out of their homes.

Furthermore, this technology is often prone to errors. According to a report from the Electronic Frontier Foundation, AI-based surveillance systems, including those from Flock, have shown high rates of inaccuracy and bias, leading to potential misidentification and wrongful actions based on faulty data.

There are viable alternatives to these pervasive surveillance systems. We can invest in community-policing efforts, neighborhood watch programs, and improved street lighting, all of which can enhance safety without infringing on our civil liberties.

We urge local authorities to reconsider their stance and take immediate steps to remove these Flock AI devices from our neighborhoods. It's time to stand up for our right to privacy and ensure that Moore remains a place where freedom, rather than surveillance, prevails. Please, lend your voice to this cause and sign this petition to protect our community from unwarranted surveillance.
