Require SWW to permanently operate an odour control unit

The Issue

Living in the Ernesettle area and surrounding green-space should be a pleasure, but for many of us, it's become a challenge due to the overwhelming malodour emanating from the SWW Treatment Plant on Ernesettle Lane.  The treatment site is one of a few sites that can treat ‘sludge’, which means they transport it here from across other Plymouth sites.  The smell isn't just a matter of discomfort—it's a disruption to daily life.

Imagine stepping out into your garden only to be greeted by an unpleasant odour, rather than the fresh scent of the surrounding greenery. Many residents like myself are unable to enjoy simple activities such as hanging out laundry, opening windows to let in fresh air, or simply relaxing outdoors. The garden, which should be a place of peace and relaxation, is instead overshadowed by this persistent issue.

The impact isn't just on leisure; it's a quality of life issue. Houses lose potential value, local businesses may suffer, and the enjoyment of community spaces is severely hindered. It's time for action.

We call on South West Water (SWW) to address this problem by ensuring the continual operation of an effective Odour Control Unit. These units can effectively reduce odour emissions, improving air quality and restoring our community's comfort and well-being.

Implementing a permanent solution will not only give relief to current residents but also set a positive precedent for addressing environmental concerns proactively. We believe that the commitment to run an Odour Control Unit permanently will drastically improve living conditions and allow us to reclaim the enjoyment of our homes and surroundings.

We urge decision-makers at SWW to prioritize the health and comfort of Ernesettle residents by maintaining a permanently operating Odour Control Unit. Please sign this petition to support a basic yet crucial improvement to our community's quality of life.
