Require Sony to Stop Censoring LGBTQ+ Content in Wolverine
The Issue
Marvel's Wolverine, a new PlayStation 5 game from Insomniac Games and Sony Interactive Entertainment, centers on Mystique and her marriage to crime boss Tyger Tiger. But copies of the game reportedly sent to countries in the Middle East cut that relationship out. Screenshots and video circulating online appear to show images of the two women in bridal gowns removed, a love letter between them redacted, and a scene where Mystique calls Tyger her wife blacked out.
This isn't the first time a major game has reportedly been altered this way. In 2023, pride flags were allegedly removed from copies of Marvel's Spider-Man 2 sent to Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates. A pattern is forming, one where LGBTQ+ characters and relationships get treated as optional, something a company can quietly cut depending on where a copy is sold.
Mystique and Tyger's relationship isn't a minor detail. It reflects Mystique's long comic book history, including her marriage to Destiny in Marvel canon. Cutting it doesn't just trim a scene, it erases part of who these characters are for players who happen to live in the wrong region.
Sony and Insomniac Games haven't publicly said which regions were affected or why the content was changed. Players deserve the same story no matter where they live, and LGBTQ+ characters deserve better than being treated as removable.
Sign the petition to demand that Sony and Insomniac Games stop censoring LGBTQ+ content out of Marvel's Wolverine and commit to releasing the same game, everywhere, for everyone.
