Require Separate Gender Bathrooms in Nashoba Regional High School

The Issue

The current design of public facilities such as airports, restaurants, and theaters upholds the long-recognized standard of providing separate restrooms for men and women. This structure respects personal privacy and upholds safety.  Nashoba Regional High School should adhere to the same principle in its new building plans.

We respectfully urge the Nashoba Regional School District Board and administration to provide clearly designated, separate restrooms for male and female students. While recognizing that all students deserve access to safe and comfortable facilities, we believe that single-gender restrooms best meet the privacy expectations and comfort levels of the majority of our school community.

We also support the inclusion of a number of gender-neutral restrooms to accommodate students who feel more comfortable in those spaces. However, the needs of a few should not determine the design of all facilities. The majority of restrooms should remain traditionally designated for male and female use, ensuring that privacy, clarity, and community expectations remain the foundation of school infrastructure.

We therefore request that the new high school design prioritize traditional male and female restrooms as the primary model, while offering reasonable gender-neutral options for those who choose to use them. This approach promotes inclusivity without undermining privacy or established standards, aligning with the values, safety, and comfort of the broader Nashoba community.

Please sign this petition to bring these concerns forth to the school committee and building committee to ensure our towns have a say in this choice. Thank you.
